Museum of the "Vieux Revin"
in the "Maison Espagnole"
The museum of Revin’s past
Open every day from the beginning of May to the end of September
Built in the first half of the 16th century , this old building (today renovated) is one of the last half timbered houses in Revin.
Resting on a stone foundation, its walls of wattle and daub and bricks are decorated with half timbering and corbels. It appears that it was the house of a well-off merchant.
As to the origin of its name, it probably arises from the period of Spanish occupation of Revin whose neutrality was frequently violated both by the troops of the kingdom of France and by those of the Empire.
Designated as a historical building on the ISMH (supplementary Inventory of historical monuments) this building is today a museum of local history on three flours which are as follows :
- the ground floor exemplifies the living conditions of a typical Revin family during the years 1920-1930
- on the first floor you will find temporary exhibitions on themes of the town, the valley or the Ardennes. The exhibition in 2008 is on the "Ardennes' Legends" (from may to september).
- on the second floor you will become acquainted with the foundry industry which plays an important role along the valley of the Meuse and you will discover items fabricated by former companies based in Revin such as Arthur Martin, Faure , Saint-Nicolas, Biard, Hénon…
